My friend just had to get a new passport because he was out of passport pages. His current work visa is in his old passport, but his new passport has a different number. Will this be a problem for traveling abroad? Does he just have to carry around the old passport with the work visa as well as the new visa with the new number? I can envision lots of confused airline check-in girls...

Your friend needs to register the new passport with immigration. They will log the new passport number in the computer system. He won't need a new visa put into the new passport. As long as he has an up to date Alien Registration Card they know he has a valid work visa. I have been on a new passport for about 2 years and haven't had any problems.

They will also transfer your re-entry permit to the new passport (free of charge) so you don't have problems coming back in.

Alos...

I got a new passport in Korea then went on vacation... Becuase it was new, there was no entry stamp... so when going through the gate I was told I had to go to immigration there at the airport to fill out some form... took about 30 mins. so go a little earlier...

The first time you travel on a new passport, you should take the old one with you and show it at passport control when you re-enter the country.
