I read a blog entry somewhere that said Jonny Computer set someone up with a desktop for around $300 and then bought it back before they left. Does anyone know of Jonny Computer actually does this? I was thinking about buying a laptop before I leave, but if I could get a desktop for that cheap in Korea, that would be fine.

You are aware that you can buy a NEW desktop (dual core / entry level) for that about price in Yongsan from many of the dealers (LCD monitor included)?

You can get used P4 systems (2.4ghz+) with an LCD monitor for under 200k.

You can get older p4 systems (1.7ghz) with CRT monitors for <100k.

Jonny Computer (Itaewon) is known for his somewhat higher that market pricing so I would be wary of what you actually get for your 300k.

Are there used computer places you can recommend in Seoul, or are those prices based on finding private sellers?

All I really wanna do is play DVDs, browse the net, and run Skype with a webcam and microphone.

New and used at the son-in plaza, across the rail yard from Yongsan station. It is the building with the big gigabyte sign on the side of it if you are standing on the plaza at yongsan station and looking across the rail yard.

You should see a big blue building that is connected by a walkway over the rail yard. To the right of that is the son-in plaza.

Johnny is a nice guy, but he's a business man. Some of his prices are very good. Others are high.

Honestly, I just need the computer to last 10-11 months then I go back home.

Brand name mainboard, intel chips, what HDD manufacturer is bad?
Sound, NIC and video on the mainboard but it is a basic surfing system.

No name LCD monitor, mouse, keyboard, case and PS but it is not a power guzzling gamers machine so really, who cares that they are no-name?

It met his requirements and was in his budget.

You still angry Twisted Evil that you got spliffed Shocked over the HDD prices in the other thread? Wink

I decided I might just go web 2.0 + a USB thumb drive and portable apps since I'll be at a university with plenty of computer labs and PC bangs around.

I'm excited to see how that experiment goes. I usually avoided university computers because they don't have all my settings and stuff. If I have everything online or on the drive every computer will be "mine."
