i have held 2 prior E2 teaching visas in korea. am currently in the US.
if i choose to go back to teach in seoul, do i have to get an FBI background check and have the consulate interview? and...
if i don't need to do these things, then can i simply enter korea on a tourist visa, job hunt and land a gig while on the tourist visa, and make the visa run to japan?
thanks.

If you have held a previous E2 visa AND have had no immigration problems (like overstaying visa by any amount of time) ... then you will probably be able to avoid the need for a consul interview in your home country ... (and so have the visa run option available to you) ...
BUT you will need to have a Criminal Record Check of some kind from your home country ... which has been verified OR apostiled in a form acceptable to immigration .... What is acceptable depends on where you are from ... AND your previous history .... |

| most US consulates waive the interview requirement for those with previous E-2 visas. ATL in particular has said that it might be a good idea to highlight your Korean experience on a resume or supply copies of your previous E-2 passport page just in case you're terribly worried about it (but it's not necessary). |
