I had to go home suddenly for a family emergency (death of immediate family member). My question is this - am I 'required' to make up for the classes that I missed? Are there any labor laws on this matter? I'm teaching at a university, and I'm going to see the director about this. I'd like to have something substantial to back me up. I'd appreciate any help, and/or links to pages where I can find the info I need. Thanks in advance. |

If you are required to make up the classes don't fight it. You probably won't be asked to, but if you are it is not worth making a stink about. The school gave you the time off without a hassle - be grateful for that in the minimum.
My condolences on your loss.
