Hi!

I've been working with elementary students for the past 15 months, but will transfer to another school in July and teach high school students.

I have some really good material for advanced students, mainly discussion group questions and news articles; however, I wondered whether there are any useful sites out there that some of you teachers use for high school lesson plans.

I can't see my elementary students lesson plans working very well Smile Well..... I hope not!!!

Thanks in advance.

We've got more than enough resources. Though most are spread about but also see the H.S. folders in our Share and Media Fire account.

daz,

Just because there are only 3 items in the folder does not mean there are only 3 things appropriate for H.S. classes. There are literally thousands of materials on the site. Browse around under SHARE and in the forums - especially my Canned Lessons where you will find lots of uploaded/attached materials. Plus, on all the Learning pages / Karaoke and A/V videos you have materials that you can download. Simple right click and 'save as". You don't need to access the internet ....

I'll be making a lot of Mystudyio quizes shortly, see their new Beta stuff under Learn.....cool application and lots of self study quizzes.

Cheers,
DD

One thing I think you need to know is that HS students aren't nearly as enthusiastic as elementary school kids. Don't be suprised if their English is worse!! Hang on to your elementary school stuff...it will probably be useful!!

Ahhhhh! I hope not!

I've heard that there are some really great students that are able to hold any conversation. I'm sure my elementary material will be used in some classes, but I really hope they are at a much higher level than that.
Shocked

depends on the highschool.

if it's a fast track one full of kids gunning for the top universities, then I am sure you will have some very good students (with most of them also attending hogwans)

but don't be shocked if the levels aren't what you expected. Have you read the posts from people who teach/have taught at public school and high schools around here?

Out of the 300 or so students that I teach, maybe 10% of them can have a conversation with me. Kind of sad.

One thing I do is leave about 10 minutes at the end of my lesson, take a chair and sit next to a group of students and have a conversation with them. Choose a different group each time. Helps them, and helps you to know who can and can't speak well.

Another thing: You'll REALLY have to decide what to do about

a) sleeping students
b) students using their cellphones
c) students listening to their MP3s
d) rude students
e) if you'll be able to manage without a co-teacher. Most (ok, all but one!)of the teachers in my school don't come to class. For me, that's ok. Having a co-teacher would be a nightmare! I do have one who comes (not an English teacher) because he enjoys my class!!

bacasper,

Are you sure you are on the right site? Also, did you log in? You need to be registered, takes 20 seconds. But membership gives you hundreds of videos to download, book discounts, thousands of materials, thousands of songs, click and play presentations, stories....much more.

Hope you get there or PM me.

Cheers,

DD
