This has probably come up before (though the search function on this site is about as effective as a kimchi facial). I'm leaving in August though my contract is officially over on September 1st (thanks to accumulated paid leave). I'm at a GEPIK elementary school.
Thing is they won't pay my:
- return airfare before the contract ends (though I showed them the ticket)
- the 13th salary before the contract ends
- plus my August salary (since I'm leaving before payday).
This means I'll be leaving around $6500 at the discretion of my school. I'll be re-opening a bank account when I get back home and they've assured me it'll all be sent through in September.
What recourse do I have if this doesn't happen? Is this normal - leaving with so much money still to be paid? Are there precedents out there?
Am I just being paranoid? Government schools are bastions of integrity, right? |

Salary and severance should be paid out on your last day of work.
Airfare may be delayed to ensure that you actually leave Korea.
Contact the GEPIK office.

or call your liason directly (Wenise for elementary and Dain for middle/HS).

When you are not IN Korea to fight for the money? Nothing. Money is gone. |
