I already posted about the five different kinds of mud on the school lunch table today. I'm also sick as a dog and just incredibly grumpy today. My boss is also making me write tests that really won't count for anything for students whom I just tested last week because I wanted to assess how much they were learning.

She's got these kids sorted into the different classes according to their ages rather than their English abilities and she wants a different test for each class. Some of my youngest students can speak circles around the older ones who act out all day and refuse to do homework all night.

I live in the middle of nowhere and going elsewhere when I'm sick isn't really an option, so I'm stuck here with nothing to do and nowhere to go. I can't even do the escapist movie thing because I do not have a TV or even my own computer. My computer died about a week before I came here and I'm saving up for a good one.

Let me get this straight:

Your boss is incompetent.
It makes more work for you.
You work too long for too little.
You don't feel respected for your job.
Half the people around you don't understand you.
The other half don't listen.
And beyond that, the food in the company cafeteria sucks.

...Welcome to America.

I'm sure that I'll get over this cold virus, finish making the stupid tests, and get to feeling better soon, but today was really hard. I wanted to take the day off, but I didn't feel good enough to fight over it, so I went to work.

Yeah Straphanger, being an employee sucks no matter where you're at. But at least in the United States you have more options to help you deal with the down times. You've got better food, more choices, cheaper prices, more recreational opportunities, and you actually belong to a community. In korea, you've got...soju. Wow. Yeah, that'll help you get out of your funk Rolling Eyes

Exactly! Stop whining and get on with it. Fix your problems instead of crying about them on here to strangers.

And our ability to live and work in the US isn't tied to a single workplace managed by autocrats with the emotional intelligence of a 14 year old.

Yep, Jkelly, that's the damn truth. Another good reason why home is so much better...not being tied to a draconian visa system and feeble minded employers who act like dictators simply because I'm not Korean. Screw that. Happy to be going back to civilization soon.

I guess you mean elephant-riding Wink

If you want to try something crazy tho' REAL elephant trekking can be done in the Thai jungles (especially Khao Yai and Kang Krachan). You need a good guide (trekker), a bit of money, 3-4 days and an absolute love for the outdoors. The best guide for that was in Khao Yai, that is until he was beaten and stomped to death by an over-protective elephant mom a few years ago. Sad
