Dear lord, buy a Let's Go guide to Australia. It's a huge country and all the major cities are fun, yet offer different things. My favorite was Melbourne, but I spent most of my time out of the cities and in nature.

What kind of things are you looking for? Beach, nightlife, culture, people, wilderness, forest, rainforest, mountains, desert, so on? I personally really liked Sydney as a city, it had everything I was looking for. Melbourne was nice, too. But I really liked the open road and the little towns along the way (East Coast). I heavily suggest you rent a car/van and just explore all the in between places. If you want to post again and be more specific about what you're looking for, maybe more people can help out.

I'd be interested in the answer to this question too. City-wise I'd like to know which places are clean, have interesting photo ops, and have stuff like interesting campus areas, open markets, walking streets, art/music shows/fairs, that sort of thing.

Also like to know what good nature-y stuff there is to do and see.

sydney and melbourne are the best city cities. there's an old saying in oz that if u're living outside these two cities, u're camping out, and it's still kinda true. sydney's a big, dumb, beautiful city wit one of the most gorgeous harbours in the world, nice beaches, parks and stuff. melbourne's more "european" (read , weather's not as good). it also has nice beaches, and a good night life. brisbane's growing at a fast rate, and not a bad little city. adelaide's a pretty city (if a little boring). i've heard perth's beautiful as well. i'd like to get to broome, tho. heard good things about it.
