My hotmail account has been used to send an advertising message (the same one) to every contatct in my adress book.

I know it's advertising because some were bounced back undeliverable.

I didn't do it of course, and I think maybe it's a virus. I have changed my password, I have also disabled system restore, and am running a full virus check now.

In all my years on a PC, this has never happened to me.

Has anyone had this happen? Did I open a bad email?

How do i get rid of the problem?

Actually sounds like someone using a mail program something like OUTLOOK caught a virus and your e-mail address was in their address book so the spam was spoofed to look like it was coming from you (but really wasn't).

It IS possible that IF YOU USE THE MS-address book on your computer AND if it knows your hotmail address that IT was cracked and used as the source by some Trojan or worm. (less likely than scenario "A").

This has happened a number of my friends and all from hotmail. I don't know what they did, try yahoo! answers.

Do you use MSN messenger?

Messenger is installed but I have not used it in a long time.
