There is a Ferry that goes to Hongdo and Haksando. Both are great islands with spectacular scenery. If you go to Hongdo take the ferry around the Island.
These Ferries leave really early in the morning. So if you arrive in the afternoon you'll have to arrange accomidation in Mokpo and head to the terminal early
The ferry is commonly cancelled due to bad weather or roogh sea's
If you find yourself in that situation walk to the terminal next door they have a ferry to Cheju-do.
If you find yourself stuck in Mokpo there are tons of Sashimi restaurants
on the waterfront. These places are not cheap and if you go there solo the owners will look at you like you're from Mars.
This kind of trip should be taken with a bi-lingual Korean |

When I went there it was only 5000w that's a good deal. Also cheaper than the ferry to Hongdo and Haksando. There are no seats you sit on the floor people play card games and drink soju. Since you're a foreigner you'll be considered a novelty. I had a good time on the ferry ride to Cheju-do. I got really pissed drunk and ate this raw Sting ray which was dreadful.
If the ferry to Hongdo is cancelled it's a good option. However if the ferry to Hongdo is cancelled there's a good chance the weather on Cheju-do is really bad.
There's also an overnight ferry that goes from Cheju-do to Incheon. This one is a real piss up. |
