I'm trying to prepare a part of a lesson using the electronic whiteboard.
The students have to brainstorm their ideas about a topic. I want to have a series of pictures that represent different ideas along either the top of the bottom of the screen.
Then when they tell me their ideas--I want to write them down using the electronic pen and move the relevant picture next to what I write. It doesn't seem to be possible in powerpoint--
Any bright ideas?
Thanks |

Sorry, not really an answer for ya, but was interested in you having an issue with the e whiteboard since I am just getting involved in e whiteboards myself.
Is anyone else using an e whiteboard? Are you finding that it can help you do things that the plain old chalkboard or projector screen couldn't?
From what it sounds like crazy-arcade is trying to do, I have to wonder at the value of spending a couple of thousand dollars on a piece of technology for which you could do the same activity for a few cents through other simpler methods.
Are e-whiteboards just a waste of money? |

Just limit the number of pictures and there should be no need to move them. Just write the ideas around the picture itself, or right on top of the picture. |

I think e-boards are a waste of time for the most part. Kinda cool to play with and make the kids go "oooh", but gets old fast.
What we really need is that e-board / projector from Ironman. |

I like mine because I don't have to waste time writing on the board so much. Just type something up in Word and add notes in class as necessary. Plus I use multimedia like videos and audio. All of it is put on my USB drive, and is reusable in other sections of the same course.
I'm mildly allergic to chalk dust, so the e-board is a big help in that regard, too. |

I have used my eboard to do the following.
Google Earth. You can control most of the functionality within Google Earth through the eboard. It's great for incorporating into lessons of geography, directions, etc.
Games. I have played a drawing game similar to Win, Lose, or Draw using the board. The students draw a given object (selected by the teacher), and their group attempts to guess what it is.
Annotation. I use Google Docs for most of my presentations. So, I can open up the application for annotating, and then simply write my notes with my finger or epen.
'Removing' words. I have my students memorize dialogs from time to time, and then have them come up. I will gradually 'remove' (blackout) the words from the dialog, so they are having to do it all from memory.
Animations. The application allows one to draw 'cells' or 'slides,' so I have used it to make animations. These can be saved and replayed. The students can then be required to sync a story or dialog they are reading and/or repeating with the animation.
I have not tried what OP is wanting to do with pictures, but you might be able to locate a Flash application which allows you to move around pictures. Then you could use the annotation software on top of this to accomplish the desired task. This assumes your setup is similar to mine though.
That said, the eboard is still too limiting. It needs to have faster response times, better calibration, and multitouch capabilities. Plus, we need a desk size one for each student. Then, we could network them and do amazing things. Of course, I am dreaming. |
