Hey guys,
I'm going to Korea in September (through Canadian Connection), and I know a couple of people who will be going to teach in Incheon. I've got the option to teach there, or in Seoul, but I can't decide.
If anybody can give me some help, I'd really appreciate it [/img] |

Incheon by most accounts and personal experience, sucks. The only thing it has going for it is the proximity to Seoul and a couple of beaches.
If you have the option to live in Seoul, take it. |

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Seoul, I think. I guess I'm just a little scared that I won't make any friends so I wanted to be close to people I know. In the end though, going to a place where there is way more to do is a better idea. And everyone seems so nice here that it should be easy enough to make friends i hope!
Although beaches do sound nice... |

You'll be just an hour away from a couple of decent beaches. But as one poster mentioned, they're not very well kept, and in all honesty the beach season here is maybe 3 months max. As far as the great Korean beaches are concerned, your proximity to Seoul Station and the East bus terminal will be a bonus.
Your Incheon friends are going to be glad they have a friend living in Seoul. I'll bet they'll be crashing at your place pretty frequently. |

I agree with everybody here, better to live in Seoul and visit Incheon than the other way around. Incheon and Seoul are connected by train and bus, a ride on the 9500 to Gangnam or the 1500 to Sinchon takes around an hour in good traffic (which is not always the case) but the last buses run before and around Midnight. Subway takes about the same time. Miss the bus and its a taxi ride home at around 30,000 Won. Rent there may be cheaper though. |

incheon isn't bad. i'm out in bupyeong, so it's not far out in incheon, and seoul is still accessible. i'm sure seoul is definitely more happening, but there's a good network of people out here and so far i haven't felt too bad about spending my weekends at the local bars here. there's a close knit teacher community out in incheon (if not a bit incestuous) so at least it's foreigner friendly. |

Also in favour of Incheon, the subway there may be small but it is so much neater and nicer and modern than most of the Seoul lines. Bupyeong is also quite a large station.
At the Incheon terminal station is a harbour where you can go on a "cruise", takes 2 or 3 hours and the highlight is the crazy adjumma dance to the tunes of a mad Ukrainian band, transmitted live to large flat panel monitors in the ship. Oh, and the seagull feeding, which is just cool 'cause they take the food from your fingers in flight.
Incheon Grand Park is a good spot to relax and there are live concerts there. |

Personally, I find Seoul too large and crowded. I don't enjoy myself. I don't really need the big city experience. The closer I am to the country, the better I feel. I find Incheon foreigners a bit more friendly as well.
Incheon is fine by me. I've been here six years.
PM me if you need to know anything. |
