|

I want to watch PC downloads on my (larger) TV screen. How do I do this? Just run a cable from the PC to the TV? USB, RCA, S video, or what?
The computer is about 10-12 feet from the TV. Are there any cables this long?
Much appreciated! |

Well, first you need to find out what kind of outputs your computer has, and then you'll need to see if your TV has matching inputs. If you have a cheap graphics card on your computer, you might only have one output, the one going to your monitor. Higher end video cards can have multiple types of outputs. Anyway, check the back of your TV and computer and get back to us.
Oh, and you can get cables of almost any length. I'm currently using a 30 foot DVI cable from my computer to my projector so 10-12 feet shouldn't be a problem. |

Some newer TVs usually the flat-panel ones, have that kind of input.
Otherwise, there are devices like this available to convert the signal:

If you are running Vista.... forget it. Vista has internal code to keep you from doing this sort of thing. You can thank Microsoft for backing the movie studios. |

Really? I have Vista, and I am enjoying downloaded movies and shows on my 32" PAVV. |

With one of these devices I linked to above?
I wasn't talking about video cards. The OP wasn't either. |

How do you know? A video card with a variety of video outputs sounds like exactly what the OP needs. |

I'm with Thunndarr...what the heck else are you going to connect a pc to a tv with, other than a video card??? The monkey port, or the orangutan input? X-D
My TV is 6 meters from my computer and I have no problem running an DVI-HDMI cable and a coaxial digital audio cable that length. Go shopping on Gmarket, you can get the cables really cheap. |

I use the S-Video to 3 (yellow, red, white) RCA plug. I've been watching all my downloaded movies like this for the past year. As far as I know, every laptop has the S-Video, unless your computer is really old. In case you don't know, it's the round plug. Google it for a picture to be exact. You can get this cable anywhere that sells electronics... Yongsan, Techonmart... Just say S-BEEDEO CABER (in korean accent if possible) and they will know what you need. Just make sure one end has the 3 yellow, red, white plugs and the other end has the round S-Video with the headphone plug.
You connect the 3 RCA plugs to the back of the TV and the S-Video plug to the back of your laptop. On the same end of the S-Video, you will see another plug. You put this in the headphones hole for the sound to come out of the TV.
Then on your laptop, you have to switch your main display to the secondary display which is your TV. Then on your TV, switch it to the mode that the RCA plug are hooked up to.
Enjoy your movies.... |

I am trying this just now, but my stupid 2 year old laptop only has a VGA port. I think.
Is this still possible?
What do i need to make it so. Furthermore, do i need to program my TV as its all in korean and it doesnt even work with the aerial as i think it needs tuning.
Cheers. |

Wow thanks --- I'll try this. How's the resolution, though? I have a 22 inch tv (not HD or LCD), and a state of the art laptop with a $600 video card in it. |

The resolution depends on the quality of your movie file. If your file is DVD quality then you will get a DVD quality resolution, etc.... |

I got the cord, followed directions and all I got was a incredibly blurry display on my TV. I could just barely make out icons from the desktop considering all the fuzziness and the constantly rolling screen. I must have spent well over 3 hours trying to get it sorted out but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions or idea what I did wrong? |

That is normal. BUT when you play the movie, it will be a clear picture. Play a movie and let me know what you get. |
