I'm happy to say that this Friday will be my first "Club Night" in Seoul, and it happens to fall right on Halloween, so I hope the party will be that much better. One question, I'm guessing that the first club I go into will give me a wristband or something. How do I know which clubs participate in club night?

they have men/women sitting outside selling the wristbands. Also, there are posters around hongdae with the names of the clubs on them. Another give away is the huge lines of people outside certain clubs. Club night is totally packed, but is heaps of fun. Have a good time.

i've seen a lot of posters around hongdae advertising halloween parties but no posters for Clubday itself.

hypothesis
clubday on halloween would bring in less money than individual halloween parties. Couple this with the Sejong Theory (defined here as 'It's all about the Sejongs') and we are led to the conclusion that club day is cancelled.

method
i will go out on the street later tonight, and, using eyes (2), attempt to locate posters (here defined as pieces of paper adhered to walls and/or other features of the local environment) and/or other advertising media that confirm that events will be proceeding in a clubday-wise fashion. Absence of the above shall be taken as evidence in favour of the hypothesis.

results and conclusion to be posted at a later time.

Not to be a smart ass... but have you dropped by any clubs and asked the owners/employees?

I'm quite curious as well what you find out.. I'm already beer thirsty and club hungry.

Oh and there's one thing John Ritter's death taught me it was that life is here today, gone tomorrow..

Why would I waste my time going to every club in the area asking the owner if he takes part in club night? I can ask the question on esl cafe and have the answer within 5 minutes, and I never have to leave the comfort of my desk.
That's why I love this website.

don't worry, that's my job.

CLUBDAY RESEARCH PROJECT PART II: THE QUICKENING

Results
I saw a poster (as defined above) outside Matmata. It said clubday will be on. Then I talked to the owner of Matmata's little brother. He confirmed what the poster said.

Conclusion
The hypothesis was not supported. Clubday is on. Tidings of Joy indeed!

Last month, 12 clubs participated in Club Day, so not all of them do. Here are the clubs I remember participating:
1. Matmata- the oldest club in Hongdae and my favorite!!!
2. dd, also known as Discovering Days
3. Joker Red
4. Club Tool
5. Hooper
6. Saab
7. MI
8. nb
9. MWG or Myungwolgwon
10. Hodge Podge
Can't remember the last 2.

Yeah, I heard in I'taewon people actually dress up for Halloween. Many bars in Korea have Halloween parties. I went to one 2 years ago, and only the bartenders dressed up. The place was packed and not one single person was dressed for Halloween. I wore a sweatshirt with a black cat and brought along a long black wig, just in case. I wore it for only a few minutes since no one else bothered to wear a costume. One of my coworkers tried to talk me in to going to Gecko's in I'taewon. She said peole ALWAYS come in costume on Halloween. Most Koreans really don't get into dressing up. Why is it that only the bartenders dress up and no cutomers do?

I went to a Halloween Party tonight.. but only about 15% dressed up in Halloween costumes.. which pretty most consisted of most of the foreigners.

I don't think I saw any Koreans dress up except for the ones who worked there..

But the miniskirts were definetely out everywhere I looked.

lots of people out last night, although we gotinto town a little late to cram in Club Day with G-Spot festivities.

I can't name both, but one of Princess's missing bars is Sk@, my personal favorite hook-up.

For those interested in Club Day, you can usually also pick up a small postcard-sized club map that shows where they all are.

We'll likely go next month, but cold weather usually means more conservative dress - the minis last night were awesome - felt almost like Japan!

I'm a personal fan of the Hong-dae Club Day vibe; I wish they would do another korean Anti-Club Day - those were great, as well.

Regards,

G.
