In another thread, many teachers are complaining about the upcoming Orientation - and for some of us - for good reason: It's 4 months into our contracts (for some people its even 10 or 11 months in) and basically to spend 5 days sharing a room with a bunch of strangers hearing about Korea's four seasons, how to act like a total monkey in front of the class, and a good contract discussion/bitching sesson is going to be painful.

For my money, there'd be a couple of things I'd like to see which would make it a valuable experience (non-teaching related, but very helpful).

1. Representatives from a bank who offer a full range of services to teachers, international ATM card, problem free remitances etc.
2. Representatives from Samsung card (or similar) who offer teachers a credit card.
3. Representatives from a Cellphone company who actually let teachers get a contract phone without all the hassles.

Now, I know all of these services are possible to obtain out in the "real world." But instead of prowling around looking for a bank who isn't full of @#$#, finding a cellphone store (I heard LG does this) who are willing to help and speak English to the point of being able to explain there plans. (My local LG store has a big sign saying: Foriegners Welcome!! All in korean...) etc...All those would make for a productive week... (and I'm sure in 5 days there will be some to get this done.)

Any other things you'd like to see? Before anyone says they would like to see Hyori, I checked...she's booked that week Sad

Add this to the "Public school vs. hagwon" thread. There's something to be said for getting picked up at the airport and driven to your hagwon, handed a book and told "teachee!"

I would like it to be for 3 days instead of 5, as originally planned for last month.

I was just told that I have to go to this one, even though I went last fall and the one day workshop last December.

Does anyone have a working phone number for Dain? I called 031-249-0045 but the line is disconnected. I'd like to know if I can get out of this, since the original workshop was scheduled only for new teachers

I'd like to see the exit.

So far no one's said anything to me about it. I'm guessing It'll be sprung on me at the last minute, like everything else around here.
