Yes, I read your blurb, and four spelling errors in one short piece does not inspire confidence in Your professionalism. And if you are in any way affiliated with the ESL Korea website, then thanks but no thanks. |

Looks like my "in before the lock" was premature. I figured that it was coming since this got put in every friggin' forum. And of course this critique is probably moot because we'll probably never see or hear from "eslkoreasurvey" again. But I'll do it anyway.
I noticed in the survey that the only "nationality" option for Brits is "English". I guess if you're Scottish or Welsh, you have to check "Other". Sorry. And then it asks you how good your "Hangul" is on a scale of one to ten. Well, I guess I can check ten because I learned Hangul in one day. (Oh, did you mean the language, not the writing system?) Not to mention the fact that there is nothing scientific (or even accurate) about a poll which is left open to whoever cares enough to seek it out. One might expect someone conducting such a poll to have at least the slightest clue. Apparently not.

I counted 5 in the blurb. No, I'm not one to nitpick spelling, or much else for that matter, but coolsage is right; this is supposed to be a formal survey. |

I think a survey to get the lay of the land is an admirable goal, but I also wonder what measures are put in place to prevent "The wrecking crew" (Big Bill, Squaffy, Shinshon Maan et al.) and/or other like-minded persons from multiple entries bent on deliberately skewing the results. A poorly done survey is worse than no survey at all. Not saying this WILL happen, just something for ESLKorea2000 to ponder. |

Thank you for your feedback with regards to the survey. I will correct the errors mentioned.
I would just like to clarify a few points that received some criticism:
First of all, you will notice that the survey is exploratory in nature as it tries to establish what people's opinions are about ESL in Korea. It tries to go beyond the wild comments and remarks found on various websites. This knowledge could be used in various ways to improve the experience of all ESL teachers in Korea.
Secondly, I agree that the survey could be open to abuse by anyone. To counter irregular entries the data are checked and any unclear and logically contradictory entries are not used, according to standard survey practice.
Lastly, nothing was said about the statistical analysis of the data and the extent to which generalisations will be made to the whole ESL community. Due to the snowball, non-probability nature of the sample, the report will not generalise beyond the survey itself.
I hope this will clear up some of the issues. |

So if someone writes multiple concise and logical anti-Korean survey answers they WILL be accepted? Additionally could you please explain what standard survey practice(s) you are using? |

Well, you clearly have not gotten on with the survey; the responses so far have been About the survey, and not the survey itself. Nonetheless, your reply leads me to think that you just might be legit. Tell me, tell us all more about the purpose, the parameters of this thing, and you might find people contributing to your enterprise (though, by god, there had better be beer and pizza at the other end of this, at your expense, of course). |

To the designer,
Could you post more info on the source/reasons ect. for the survey. While I fail to see why anyone would bother with a survey of this nature unless they had the best of intentions for the data collected, I would still like to know a little more about the background, funding ect. Is it a stats project for school or actually commisioned by someone here in Korea.
My apologies if I missed this info on the webpage - but it would convince/alleviate any hesitations people may have to even bother. |
