Hey john, if your looking for "brand new" most of those scooter stores probably have contacts for new bikes. If you can steal a Korean speaking friend for a couple of hours, you'll be surprised what they will find for you.

I'm only speaking from experiences with the stores in my area, your right they never have any new bikes at the store, but the second you get it across that you want to buy a new bike, they bring out a bunch of posters and magazines with all the newest models.

Give it a shot.

I have bought and sold at least 5 motorcycles in Korea, and I have to warn you... of those 5, only 1 motorcycle I purchased used didn't have any major problems (and I bought that one from a foreigner off of Dave's).

My experience has been that Koreans generally keep these things and only sell them when they've encountered a problem that they don't want to spend money to fix. The bike shops clean up the bikes and are either oblivious/don't care/try their best to hide the problem, and sell it.

My latest experience was with a 50cc Major ATS from a bike shop down the street. It had the oddest problem that the bike shop couldn't fix. After going up a long hill and reaching the top, it would just die -- not from overheating -- it just shut off for no apparent reason. I owned the bike for 6 weeks -- 3 of which it was in for repairs. The bike shop took it in no fewer than 4 times, and each time they claimed they fixed the problem, only they didn't. Finally, after claiming that they totally changed the engine (which I believe was a lie because I could see the same marks on my engine) and the problem continued, they gave me my money back.

All in all it was a huge waste of time. I have no faith in buying used anymore. I expect a problem with every single used bike I purchase from a Korean. I'd rather buy from a foreigner leaving town who has to sell for that reason.

Daelim, Hyosung and Harley Davidson have new bike shops in Korea, in Seoul Daelim and Hyosung have quite a few. I did a google search last year and found quite a few.
