A few questions about neg. your job offer(s).
1. What or how is the best way to neg. a salary with a recruiter or can they even speak for their employer regarding salary? Not that it may matter much in Korea, but I do have a M.S. Ed. and teaching experience. How, if possible, can I take advantage of this?
2. Is their any other advice about the best way(s) to neg. any aspect of job offers?
Thanks! |

1. You don't negotiate with a recruiter. You tell them what you want and ask them to either match it or get as close as they can. You may end up negotiating with a school through a recruiter, but that comes later. The lazy ones will try and steer you toward a job they need to fill to make their buck. Use every recruiter out there and play them off against each other.
Remember, they don't work the same way head hunters work in N. America.
2. You should be applying for university positions. With an MA, you'll be mighty lonely at a hakwon (institute). At the very least, get into the university hakwon (unigwon) at a large university and then transition to a departmental job in a year or two.
You can find information about finding and applying for university positions on a few different threads on Dave's. Do a search. |

I would be happier at a Univ. however I would have to acquire that job from the US. I am not in Korea. I will have plenty of time to get things together this summer for a Uni. job, however everything I read has interviews going on in Korea.
Some of me says just get over there, see what it is all about....work a year and hit up the uni. jobs once there, familiar with things, and can interview in person. Is this a crazy idea? |

| You can get a university job from abroad, but many of the bigger schools/programs here want a personal interview. Just try and find a place that will hire you from where you are. Make a demo CD...whatever it takes. |
