Today was graduation day at my school (adult students only, before anyone has a conniption) and the class leader handed over my gift. It's a wooden box a little more than a foot long. Nice wood. I open the brass clasp and inside is one bottle of wine (from Chile) and 5 gadgets set into the box top. I can identify 2 of them.

1. Cork screw.
2. Thermometer (I might keep it in case I catch the flu and want to know my temperature, but other than that, I have no use for it.
3. A U or V-shaped thing that is slightly flexible. What is it for?
4. A thing that looks like a pointed plumb line with a round wooden knob on the top. It's quite heavy. It isn't quite pointed enough to puncture tires but would work well to scratch cars. Any ideas about its intended use?
5. A really interesting-looking thing that's a flat piece of silver metal that has been wrapped around a wooden cone. The bottom is open for maybe half an inch, big enough for my little finger to go in.

Does anyone have a clue what these things are?

The box is quite nice and I'm sure I'll keep it after I drink the wine. I have no idea how much they shelled out for it but it looks expensive. Maybe W30,000? I'd have been just as happy with 30 bottles of 참이술--probably happier.

Pictures dude, pictures.

Although I suspect that #4 is a wine stopper, to be used after you use pull out the cork and then find that it won't (gasp!) fit back into the bottle.

#3 - an I.U.D.?

EDIT

Ah, it just hit me - #3 might be used to cut the wrapping off the top of the bottle.

Sounds like...a bottle stopper, a foil cutter (the v-shaped thing), thermostat to ensure your wine cellar is the appropriate temperature, and #5...no idea.

The rest I can appreciate but a 'drip collar' seems rather pretentious to moi!

Drip collars are good if you're on a white tablecloth...otherwise, useless at best.

Awwwright, guys! Good work so far. Very Happy

#3 is the foil cutter and #4 is a stopper.

#5 is still a mystery. Another detail: there is a piece of black plastic on the business end (the open end). It could be a stopper, but seems too narrow. The wooden cone points up.

Maybe it's a non-drip spigot.

There is nothing at all on the box itself, but the wine is Santa Raquel Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 from Alberto Siegel Chile.

Is it a wine spout for pouring?

Or a stopper type spout?
