Hello my fellow ESL teachers.
I have a basic job question that I am hoping you can help me with. I just got a job offer from SMOE and I'm wondering; Do any of you know how much they negotiate? They are offering me 2.3 as a level E teacher. I am currently a level one teacher in Daegu so I am already making 2.3.
As for my qualifications; I have two years of teaching Engilish in Korea, one year teaching as a full time sub (though I often taught English, I taught many subjects) in the U.S., eight years of teaching chess to children (once again, it's not English, but it shows a pattern of teaching to children) and I have my TEFL certificate. I have my Bachelor's in Political Science and I am approximately 90% done with my Master's in Special Education.
And the topping is the letter of recommendation from my Korean school Principal.
So the question is, how much should I attempt to negotiate or should I just take it and not worry? |

I have two years teaching experience and TEFL also. Like you my masters is incomplete. An incomplete masters = no masters. I don't think SMOE will negotiate.
You may want to argue that you have three years teaching experience. I would think subbing should count. |

I could be wrong but I was under the distinct impression that you needed to have additional time specifically working as a SMOE/ETIS foreign teacher to move up beyond that? |
