Mind-blowing movie, this is about as close as cinema comes to being a religious experience. Highest, biggest, most topped-off recommendation on this one.

Books for my Kindle.

Douglas Adams, Plato, Aristotle, various classics I should have read years ago but never did like LOTR, harry pothead, Journey to the Centre of the Earth etc.

A couple of shakespeares I remember from school but never understood at the time, Sagan, Homer, Pratchett.

Man. All the stuff I wanted for years but never had the motive to actually get them because they require money. Now I can just torrent them, I'll be reading almost permanently for the rest of my life.

That movie was a lame 'student / teenage filmaker tries to make latest edgy film' type effort.

Best thing I downloaded recently was 'An idiot abroad.' Very entertaining and likeable travel show that follows a little Englisher around the countries that are home to the 7 wonders and his often narrow minded opinions on what he experiences.

Literally an objectively wrong opinion right here, folks. Ignorant as well.

Sigh, getting upset because someone esle doesn't like the same movie that she does... Dear oh dear. How did you manage to get up the gumption to move overseas?

Moreover, opinions are subjective. Secondly all my friends also thought it was a movie that seemed made by a very young filmaker trying to be edgy, but failing due to it's over obviousness and over explicitness and simplicity. Subtlety, knowing when to use a silence in music - same applies to all art forms.

Thirdly - reported to mods for needless personal attack.

I will also say that this movie rocked. Not the type of movie I would recommend to everyone, though.

I would recommend to everyone downloading the movie "Mary and Max." It was one of the most entertaining and emotional movies I have seen in a long time. It is my new go-to recommendation, taking over for my old one, "The Fall."

i heard about this movie on the joe rogan podcast. i'll have to check it out.

i also heard about irreversible and the infamous rape scene. bobby lee was actually talking about it on the same podcast and said he had to turn it off after that scene because it was so disturbing. i downloaded it but am afraid to watch it.

By not being a deliberately insensitive douche.

It kinda helps!

Come on, get snide and insulted somewhere else. This thread's for recommendations, not squawking. You've got the whole rest of the site for criticism and bitchiness.

Sigh...yes, I suppose you're right...I've no defense.

Anyway, I got a torrent of Errol Morris' First Person off Demonoid a few days ago. Really good stuff. It's a shame Morris' voice is so nasal, because the questions he asks are really excellent.
I've watched about half of them now, and they're invariably very well done.
Morris is a pretty interesting guy--here's the link to his wiki page.

Think most of his stuff is on youtube.

Just finished season 3 of Mad Men and I swear that show just keeps getting better.

Surfer Blood-Astro Coast

There's plenty to like about Astro Coast, the debut LP from the youthful Floridians in Surfer Blood, but first and foremost it's a great guitar album. So what exactly does that mean these days? Often, it's a reference to either a display of astounding technical chops or innovative use of tone and texture, qualities which, to be quite honest, aren't particularly present here. This is a great guitar album in the way Weezer's Blue Album, Built to Spill's Keep It Like a Secret, or, more recently, Japandroids' Post-Nothing are: six-strings serve as a multiplier for hooks, making it every bit as easy and fun to air guitar with as it is to sing along to

Sleigh Bells-Treats
Once in a while a record comes along that makes you re-think loud: King of Rock; The Land of Rape and Honey; Nation of Millions; Super Ae; I Get Wet; Kesto. Setting aside the quality of the material-- there are classics here, along with albums I never listen to anymore-- these albums are notable for me because the first time I heard them, music just seemed bigger than it had before, like it took up more space and hit with more force and went further than once seemed possible.

Sorry I stole the reviews because I'm too lazy to write my own.
