|
|
Just a few questions...
Arriving Manila around midnight and thinking of flying to Caticlan at 5am. Does the airport stay open during the night and are there quiet spots for sleeping?
Also, will any of the currency exchange booths be open around those times or am I going to have to wait for a later flight so I can change my money?
I hear it's best to change my Won to Dollars in Korea, and then once in the Philippines change the Dollars to Pesos, is this advisable, or would you simply change Won straight to Pesos?
Many thanks for any advice... |

Airport has two international terminals. Newer one for Philippines Air and older one for everything else.
If I was travelling alone, I'd just hang out in the airport and catch a plane at 5 am. However, we've decided to get a hotel room and catch a plane at 11:30. We can get some sleep, have breakfast, and not feel like zombies our first day or two on the islands.
As for won vs. dollars. Dollars are the choice of currency travelling pretty much everywhere. I'm pretty sure rates will be worse for the won.
I've been told that a money changer will be open on the airport or...there are also atms's that will work. |

There is usually one money changer open in terminal 1 in the wee hours (meeting the korean air and northwest airline flights).
There is NO money changer open in the wee hours at terminal 2.
Terminal 2 is CLOSED to public access between your arrival and 4am when they open up.
If you are flying to Caticlan you will probably be flying SEA air or Asian spirit and they are out of the domestic terminal. There is NOTHING in there and they are CLOSED at night.
Change your won to pesos here (10k pesos anyway (250k won)) and take the rest in nice, new, crisp $100 bills. Try to make sure you get some p100 notes. Most places outside the malls and major hotels can't break p500's or p1000's.
The best rates for changing money on Boracay are down by boat station 1. The worst rates are at the tourist info place or the money changers by boat station 3 or D'Mall.

Ah yes, ATMs, always forget about those (not that I can use my Korean card in them). Thanks for the info., I'm flying Cebu air both from Korea to Manila and Manila to Caticlan ($22 flights, yes please!).
It's good to know that if needs be, I can change my money on Boracay, I really have little idea what to expect (well, I'm expecting Koh Tao kind of atmosphere)... |

What banks were you able to change at for pesos?
We tried a KB star and a Nong-hyup with no luck. |
