As many of you who use gmail know, they use "targetted advertising", so if you recieve an email from your mate talking about last night's football match, they'll throw a list of ads (on the side) about football, betting on football, buying football tickets and so forth. The same applies to pretty much any topic, and usually the ads are relativly appropriate.

Normally I wouldn't post this, but in the news lately there is much talk about how 'advanced' google's adsense technology really is. But here's the kicker, WHENEVER i recieve an email from a korean friend (with a korean email address) I always get a ton of ads in Korean. Perhaps appropriate, but the entire email is in English, yet the ads are in Korean, and nothing about "me" has suggested i speak a lick. Even better, the technology has picked up the words in English, and proceeded to translate them and give me appropriate ads in Korean.

So my friend who just sent me an email about her trip to the UK results in me getting a whole bunch of "visit UK" stuff in Korean.... Google Sparkling? Razz

Interesting.

On a side note, has anyone been having problems with regular gmail lately? As of yesterday or the day before I have only been able to load the html version. The standard version seems to go through the load cycle over and over again but never complete.
