I'm going to the Philippines for my summer break and wondered if anyone could give me some info on cellphone availability for short term use -- where to get, costs and such.
Thanks. |

Walk into the mall.
Walk into the phone shop of your choice.
A cheap (NEW) phone is about p1500 (~30-40k won depending on the exchange rate). Top end phones can run up to 300k+ won (p15,000+)
Get a new SIM (p250) and "load" (airtime card) p100, p300, p500.
Walk into the coffee shop, install your SIM. Follow directions on the card and put the cash into it.
Make your calls.
The whole process takes 5 minutes if you know what phone you want (ie-the cheapest one on the counter). 30 minutes if you are shopping around.
No ID or paperwork required (other than pay for it and get your receipt).
You can get "used phones" off of a street vendor for a little less money (save 5k won) but you are taking your chances as to whether it will work or not (also whether it is stolen or not).
You can buy a "load" for your phone at just about EVERY corner store, grocery, phone shop, etc in the country.
