What will you do if the US or Japan takes down that pesky little "satellite" ? I never thought it would get this far, but it really seems like NK has painted itself into a corner by misreading the situation. The US, SK and Japan seem pretty unified that there will be no concessions made in an attempt to allow NK a profitable alternative to launching, rather they seem to be upping the ante. It doesn't seem like anyone will shoot it while it's on the launch pad, but I have visions of 20 different interceptor missles being launched at the same time from 20 different places, that seems like a bad thing.
So, what will you do? I'm seriously considering packing the family up and heading back to the US. Am I just getting jittery?
I consider this general discussion because it involves a very serious aspect of living here. |

Chill out--it's all just a lot of noise. Remember, NK doesn't even have enough food, let alone any serious weapons that can hurt us. |

Tell yourself that when the artillery bombardment of Seoul commences and you find yourself on the wrong end of a 170mm round. Of course if you live further south, no worries. |

The US bases aren't on a raised level of alert. If I start being told I need to prepare to evacuation, I'll let you all know. Until then, I think we're fine. Try not to worry. |

Utter nonsense. North Korea is the most militarised country in the world. It doesn't have enough food because it's a society centered around a military (20% of its population) and its armaments.
"According to a U.S. military source, North Korean missile exports to the Middle East during 2001 totaled about $580 million" http://www.cns.miis.edu/pubs/week/pdf/060321.pdf
What's that? NK is an exporter of ballistic missiles and you say it doesn't have any serious weapons that can hurt us?
Btw, do you consider a nuclear warhead to be a "serious weapon"? |

If the missles/artillery/and bombs are flying, say goodbye to everything living in and around Seoul.
The rest of you down south in Gwangju, Busan, and Jeju will probably be saved. |

Is anyone else disappointed that apparently if hostilities are imminent the US bases are going to be evacuated? I was kind of hoping they would stick around and, you know, fight... |

Well, let me see. There's some fellas that have been hangin' round here oh about 55 years or so that all wear the same kind of clothes. They get up real early and have to follow the orders from those with fancier clothes. Most of them can do much harm, because they've been trained to. Alot of them catch flak from westerners here. (you know, the ones who never served their country, but that's a whole different thread). Suffice it to say those who have served (myself included, you can see my DD-214 if you'd like) would be very agitated should some other country get too aggressive. You see those jets flying over all the time? They can make things go boom. They're good at it, too. The best in the world. I won't lose any sleep becuse my brothers in arms got my back. Always have, always will. All you folks with those fancy new degrees, you could go to officer training school and in 4 short years wear a fancy uniform yourself. Then, after 20 more short years, you could retire on a fat pension before you're 50. Call your recruiter today and be "all you can be". Semper Fi!! Who wants some?

what i don't understand is that its taken them months to prepare this missile and the US, Japan and everyone else is sitting watching it on its platform and when it does get launched there appears more than enough fire power dotted around to take it out before it even gets above Kim jongs hair line.....so wheres the panic?
I'm almost certainly over simplifying the situation here but if the North cant get a rocket out of their airspace without it being shot down in matter of seconds then surely any military conflict would involve North Korea ( or at least all their missile launching capabilities )getting annihilated in a matter of days? |
