EPIK is doing medicals right off the plane (on arrival) and then giving a 1 to 2 week break before teaching to ensure the teacher is safe according to my recruiter. Orientation is for 1 day to meet your co-teacher and go for a medical.
Does this sound right or am I in for a big surprise? As an EPIK public school teacher, did you start teaching once you hit the ground like in a hogwan or did they really let you chill for the 1st 2 weeks?
What was your start like for EPIK?
I'm preparing to depart in 1 week. Thanks for your inputs experienced EPIK teachers.
I don't read much about EPIK on here so it must not be nearly as stressful or dodgy as the hogwan gig often is. |

Shouldn't take 1 ~ 2 weeks to get your medical results usually just a day or so. |

PS teachers don't usually get off the plane and into the class like hakwon teachers often do.
It is almost the end of the school term so depending on what level you are teaching there may not be many/any English classes left in the term.
A few days of observation and/or training often occurs before you are left to sink or swim. You may also be left to do lesson planning or just chair warming depending on how ready the school is for you.

Yes EPIK. I went to orientation, but that wasn't at the school. No training, no observation, just thrown straight into the classroom. |

Aye, I'm with EPIK and I tought two days after I arrived. Arrived on a Sunday and was doing introductory lessons on that Tuesday. No training, no orientation or anything. Just get in there and teach, that was their approach. |

I'm not with EPIK, but I'm with a public school, and I had to start teaching on my first day as well. Thankfully I arrived on a Saturday, so I had two days to get over jet lag. |

My "training" was all done on my first day, and it consisted of me being sat at a desk and given 3 textbooks. I was told "read these today, you teach them tomorrow". This was a GEPIK school.
Orientation was a few months later. |
