Not sure which forum to put this one:
For those who have taught in other countries, or even met ex-Korea teachers while on vacation, what sorts of things do they tend to say regarding living and teaching in Korea? I met a few, and really none seemed too disappointed to have left Korea. Part of the reason they left may be simply because they didn't like it anyway. Some seemed a bit "scarred" even from their time in Korea, and really had nothing good to say. I'm just a bit curious what others have found; will be leaving soon myself. |

I've been back less than two weeks. In that time I've met two men who did business trips to Korea (one two weeks for 3M, one three months in Busan for AT&T). Both said that Korea was by far the hardest country to do business in. AT&T guy had lived in Northern China for six months and liked it there much more than here.
Met a guy at a party who had one daughter teach in Korea for a year. She liked it. His second daughter has been in Korea for five years, likes it, can't afford to leave. His son is currently studying at SNU, likes it.
Also met a guy whose parents met in Busan while his father was a Peace Corps volunteer. Still has extended family in Jejudo, likes to visit, but never lived here.
Haven't met former teachers yet though.
I should mention that I'm on a FARM in the middle-of-nowhere Minnesota, so these meetings have been very odd. |

Come on now, every Minnesotan knows that anywhere outside of the twin cities is middle-of-nowhere in Minnesota.
Oh and to stay on topic, I've only heard of a handful of people who went to Korea to teach and they seemed to have liked it. Although I believe they went years ago (during the world cup?) |
