OK, I'm almost ready to come to Korea, and I was just wondering what the National Health Plan covers.
I think I made a post about this earlier, but the forum won't let me search for my old posts!
So here is what I'd like to know:
1) What does the National Health Plan cover?
2) Should I get additional medical insurance for the entire time I'm in Korea? (my travel agent claimed that travel health insurance only can go for somewhere near 180 days)
3) Should I get medical insurance for 30 days (or some other number of days) to hold me over until I get my National Health Plan?
4) Any other advice? |

Health care in Korea is extremelly good, and very cheap for the most part. Every once in a while something bounces up that is expensive though.
Doctors visits are 2000 to 10,000 won, or roughly $2 to $10...that's your share. I spent 8 days in the hospital, including 5 hours in the emergency room, many tests, my share of the bill was about $320 or so.
If you are concerned about an accident, or something of tha kind, 30 days insurance might not be a bad idea, but getting it accepted in Korea would be impossible...you'd pay and then be reimburse.
Additional insurance beyond that is just not needed. |
