was just imagining how it would be.....Shocked

middle of the week, a special day just for the Native English Speaking Foreign Teacher. Laughing

a kind of tribute, a show of appreciation for our efforts Laughing

maybe a kind of voluntary, hmm, act, you know, like uh, all the foreigners thought it would be a good idea, and maybe all thought it would be interesting if on the same day, we, like, uh, didn't go teach that day. Laughing Laughing

just one day. how would that be? just imagining it of course. would never suggest such a thing. Laughing

no FT in the hakwon, no FT in the ps, no FT in the classroom, not this day, no, the FT is not here today. Laughing

***disclaimer***
in no way should this be construed that the OP is suggesting any sort of collective action, or political event, or unionization or illegal gathering. this is just an inventive musing of a "what if?"

Is this the one where the entire country, en masse, hocks a big loogie at 11am in our honour?

When I worked in a hagwon there was no ceremony involving "teacher's day" which occurs on May 15. However, at my Uni, I was at home on a Thursday night (done for the week) and at 5:30 I get a call that I have to come for a "teacher's day" ceremony at 6pm, and I live fricking 20 minutes from school.

So I hoof it to school. The teachers day ceremony is kinda strange. One of my extremely attractive Juniors (female) was assigned to wash my hands. The hand washing thing is essential to teacher's day.

Then, people said stuff in rapid fire Korean, giving (I presume) nice speeches about the professors (I was there with the profs of my dept.)

Then, the profs, spoke. Note I was last to speak and given no notifcation about this and simply handed a mic to speak to 200 people. I told my students to study hard and listen to nrp.org, and I told them that they were great, because they are.

But the whole teachers day thing threw me for a loop. On edit: I omitted the fact that the students made a 10 minute long video of students thanking, praising the professors, and it was actually really funny. Then, at the end of the video they had a blooper reel of mistakes in the video.

Also, they gave me a shirt. So teacher's day wasn't bad.

I wasn't the only one who had the hand washing ritual; all the Korean profs had their hands washed as well. If it was *only* me I would have been really freaked out.
