Can anyone tell me if they think it is possible to get a contract where your salary is quoted in USD or CAD just in case the Won suddenly goes down in value? |

Without wanting to be too harsh, if you wanted to work for fixed USD then get a job in the USA.
Whilst it might be possible to negotiate such contracts if you were a reasonably high-powered employee of one of the big corporations, I think you'd have great difficulty getting it in a standard hagwon contract. The hagwon owner would in all likelihood be unwilling to sign a deal which could cost him a lot more a few months down the line (though of course it could cost less) and as the job market is flooded with folk at the moment I'm sure there would be plenty of other folk willing to work for the Won.
But maybe someone else has a different opinion on that. |

|

Actually there is one school that I klnow that has been issuing US dollar based contracts since 1997, my best friend worked there and liked it. The problem is you work from 4-9 on monday and then Tuesday - Friday from 2-8 and also work on Saturdays and have to write report cards and those kinds of things but the school is located in Apgujung. That place is refered to by koreans as the Korean Beverely Hills since whereever you go you willl see korean movie stars and entertainers and you see lots of imported cars. Those kids living in the west or travel often to those countries so they speak english. The schools name is JACKIES CLINIC..so if you are intersted on a contract that is based on the dollar, check them out. |

In 1996-1997 I was paid in dollars. It really helped when IMF hit, but it wiped out my employer. I don't think that will happen again though. There are a lot more non- United States citizens teaching now too. |
