|
|
when i first decided to come to korea and teach, i figured i would just have to accept a hogwan job as they seem to be so easy to get. but i have since decided that a public school job seems to be the way to go.
i have been checking out the job postings and after reviewing many of the postings for public school openings (in daegu), i have noticed that all of the job postings specify that while airfare is paid for by the employee, that it is reimbursed and not a paid-for ticket before i leave.
obviously this makes me a little nervous and i would strongly prefer a pre-paid ticket before i leave.
is it normal for it to be reimbursed in public school situations?
what do you think?? |

| Yes, my recruiter told me some public schools pay it on the 1st payday while others pay it earlier with your 300,000 won settlement allowance. |

| While it is perfectly normal and usually paid relatively quickly by public schools ... It is still often quite possible to have it prepaid by the school ... (I have also heard of a few people who have had the recruiter pay it and then get reimbursed later by the school) ... So if you don't have the money to be ableo to prepay the airfare tell the recruiter / school that you require a job which will prepay the airfare ... and if necessary make that a pre-condition of being able to accept the job ... While you will be much safer in a public school in being sure of getting your airfare refunded ... It can still take a couple of weeks ... I got mine back last year after I had opened a bank account (which I couldn't do until I had my ARC) |

Contractually, airfare reimbursement for your trip TO Korean must be paid out within 30 days (sometimes schools will pay it sooner). (GEPIK).
Airfare for your home leave (if you renew) is paid out within 14 days of your RETURN to Korea.
Airfare to HOME is required to be paid out within 14 days of the end of your contract (but you must have left within the 1st 10). |

| My airfare took over a month to be reimbursed to me, but I arrived late & didn't attend orientation so I had to go through the process via mail. I got it in the end (before my second pay) which was fine as I wasn't going anywhere. Other FTs here got it in their first pay. |
