|
|
Is there a way to extend a visa on a public school contract? Long story short, my required Apostille seal for renewal of my contract may not arrive until a week AFTER my contract ends. Is there a way to strectch out my initial visa with GEPIK by a week or two while I wait for the Apostille to come through?
If so, how do I do it? MY school has no idea. |

GO TO IMMIGRATION.
IF you have all the other documentation handy (read with you) they may give you a short extension pending the arrival of your CRC (if you can show that it is in fact on the way - receipts etc).
Failure to go to immigration BEFORE your ARC expires WILL result in PROBLEMS that you don't want to deal with (loss of your E2 and overstay problems - fines, blackmark, etc).

I second ttompaz, our resident guru. I can also share my recent personal experience.
My criminal records check was late in arriving, and my contract finished on June 7th (Saturday). I phoned immigration, and they told me it was OK to come in on Monday 9th since the end date was on a weekend. I went in to the Suwon office and they gave me a 10 day extension to get the criminal check, but also told me that the hospital had run the wrong type of drugs test. So although the check arrived the next day, I still had to wait a week for the results of the new drugs test.
One unforseen consequence of this was that my cellphone got automatically switched to incoming calls only (I'd shown my ARC when registering it). I couldn't get it switched on again until my ARC showed my new end date. |

| All very good advice. I just got off the phone with my sister, my hometown police department and the Minnesota Secretary Of State Department (these three parties all reside withing 20 miles of each other). I've been informed that my sister is allowed to retrieve my police records and accompanying Apostille on my behalf, and that my police records will be ready and notarized in roughly 4 hours. The women in charge of records is an angel and a saint. Sis should be able to Fedex me what I need tomorrow, and I should get it next week, before my visa expires. I'll monitor this situation very carefully, and if anything goes wrong in the next few days, I'll go to immi immediately. |
