Yeah, that's right. You know it's a good university when their website lists all the credit cards they accept.
I recently talked to a 'graduate' of this uni. He was cleared by immigration. He said it took him 2.5 months to get his 'degree'. He finished early because the institute gave credit for his life experiences.
So much for the new regulations. |

They are a known degree mill.
I'm amazed they are accepted by Korea, as they are listed as a degree mill by many such checking organizations in the USA. |

We had an application from this place last year. It was rejected by EPIK.
I'd be surprised how much digging Kimmi would do on the diploma mills, but SMOE, EPIK and GEPIK may look closely.
I would imagine about 5% of current ESL teachers holding E2 visas in Korea have diploma mill degrees.
As long as visas are granted by the hardest working of Korean govt workers, things will be overlooked like this. |

I think I posted a list of universities blacklisted by Korean immigration. Can't seem to find it! I thought Belford was on that list... really want to find it. |

Ah, here we go: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=99531&highlight=immigration
That list originally came from Korvia. Apparently, it's used for civil service jobs in the USA. I thought they said Korean immigration uses that same list (it's a few years old, though).
Click on that first link in my first post. Belford is on it. |

It's a shame, but there are the quick and easy programs out there that require little more than the numbers from your credit card to supposedly give you the credentials that most of us who have been in professional careers spent many years to achieve. We are led to believe that with only a few answered questions the person receiving their paper from Belford is just as reliable as the guy who spent several years to achieve the same results.
I will not argue the fact that immigration may have had this one slip by them, but I must ask, with so many options for quality instruction in a global community of alternatives today either onsite or online, why risk your integrity? I am not trying to bash people here, but I can recall several threads here on this forum that have mentioned high quality programs where the prices have been more affordable and the access to them is becoming easier.
I have work heavily in the field of higher education for more than 15 years now, 12 years before coming to Korea and now with a Graduate School. Yes, getting a quick and easy degree may be a lure, but eventually it will be found out for what it truly is. Spend the extra cash and enroll in a program that you can trust both in quality and affordability. Students enrolling in our Graduate program can finish their Master degree in 1 year or Doctoral Degree in 2 years. The work is hard and the pace is fast, but in the end graduates come out knowing they learned something that will give them the greatest benefit for their career. BTW, I am not advertising what we do. What really matters is that people use common sense when they are considering something as serious as their education.
Cheers to the guy who got it by immigration, but those of your following in his footsteps will probably not be as pleased once immigration discovers their error. |
