If my wife (who is a housewife) ever needed medical attention sometime in the future, is there anyway my medical coverage with my job could help her, or would my health insurance be of no practical benefit to my wife, if she needed medical help?
Thank you. |

My husband is under my medical insurance through my job. I'm under the National Health Insurance plan. There should be no problem. Just go to the Insurance office and sign her up. |

My wife is also a housewife and is included on my insurance. Ask your school to add your wife to your insurance. My insurance card includes both our names. |

Give them a copy of her passport, a copy of her arc card and a copy of your wedding certificate.
Give it to your admin and tell them to add her.
JOb done - new card will arrive in ten days or so |

By copy of the passport, you mean the info page with her pic, is that right? Thanks. |

Yes, a copy of the information page (photo page) in her passport, a copy of her ARC (front and back) and a copy of your wedding certificate (in English or Korean).
They will add her to your medical and you get your new medical booklet in about 10 days or so with BOTH your names in it.
There is NO increase in the monthly premium when she is added AND you should get a big reduction in your monthly income tax payments as well.

I just spoke to my handlers about the over payment of our insurance premium but they are insisting that it is correct.
I am currently paying well over 100K for both of us.
Who should I contact to get this problem corrected? Thanks. |

Your health insurance is based on your salary, about two point something of your total salary. It's socialized health care so the number of people covered makes no difference to the rate.
But if your wife had a job, then she would also pay separately (you can't just have one person get the insurance like in the US). I feel like adopting about 20 kids just so that I would get my moneys worth.
If you have any questions about your insurance, call the National Health Insurance Corporation. They have English speakers and can explain it all to you. I've only had good dealings with them. |

I suspect that one of several things may be happening here.
a) you make lots of money (about 4 million/mo. for a premium of ~100k)
b) you are NOT a foreigner.
c) you are not on the national plan (NHIC)
- Do you have the NHIC booklet? What names are in it?
d) your employer is a thief and you work at a hakwon.
e) you both work at a hakwon and you EACH pay the correct percentage and she is on her own insurance and NOT on yours.
NHIC is 5.08% of your salary and your employer is required to pay 1/2 of that so your premium is 2.54% of your monthly salary.
http://www.nhic.or.kr/eng/
If A-E are false, then your employer is a probably liar and a thief.
