The average monthly income of urban households jumped 5.4 percent on year in the third quarter surpassing the 3 million won mark for the first time, government statistics showed yesterday.

An agency report said the income per month of an average urban household, which has at least two members and has a wage earner as its main supporter, was 3.2 million won in the third quarter, up 5 percent from the same period of last year.

Six out of every 10 working women quit their jobs after marriage, while less than 2 percent of married females find new employment, according to a report by the Korea Labor Institute released on Thursday. The employment rate for married females was only 16.4 percent while that of single females was 27.6 percent.

Am I the only one getting sick of you posting the SAME links to news articles OVER AND OVER AND OVER again?

I think I might adopt your tactics by posting this exact same thing in every thread you post useless news articles over and over.

(Let us remember news is biased and not accurate. Want proof? Who did they say won the 2000 presidential election first? Remember the NY Times reporter? Enough said.)

If I wanted to read the news, I would. I don't come to Dave's to see you posting news links all over the place.

Yeah, I read that will some interest. It says that earned income which I think is from working, accounts for about 2.67 million won. The other income is from other sources such as womens imployment and interest of deposits. There even if you break it down a bit, the numbers speak to the fact that as English instructors in the South Korea, we make less per month that what is considered an average income. Yes, that means we are poorly paid for the work we do in line with average South Korean standards. Two million for a University Instructors position is becoming a bit of a joke. I stay for other reasons than the money, but if I feel there is a quietly understood aspect to the low pay to keep us in our place, as their thinking goes.

Real reality,
Not long ago you were pointing out how the ass end is falling out of the Korean economy, now you are showing a more rosier picyure. Make up your mind.

Yup making ONE forum for this kind of stuff and you'll get no complaints from me. But having it spashed all over the place is just nuts...and IMO SPAM which is against the rules if I remember correctly.

THis is getting old. You post articles but don't actually comment or respond to anything. You articles have no meaning and are out of context particulary since you do not include a commentary.

This article for instance talks about 2 income household making an average of 3.2 million won. Most teachers in Korea are single and make well over 1/2 of the average so what is your point.

Keep all your pointless ramblings to one thread please.

Wow- I thought it was just me who thought like this! I agree its RRs right to respond to posts -but when such responses consist solely of previously posted (sometimes multiple times previously) articles, I fail to see the value or point in the response. Perhaps someone could start a RR Hall of Fame thread? You would surely have to include such gems as the Foreign Professor = Hired Hand tirade, something about strikes and protests and a few quips on prostitution and 3d workers getting taken advantage of and/or getting rounded up and deported.

This is getting old. If I wanted to see links to Korean news stories I would click on www.newsonkorea.com !

It's way beyond that! it has reached the stage of moldy pizza in the bottom of your refrigerator left-over from last summers party.

Well, like it or not, it doesn't seem to me that Real Reality has broken the rules of the board. Maybe he does post the same things again and again...but you nitwits keep reading it! You KNOW he's going to do it, why do you bother clicking his link?

I actually appreciate the posts. It is convenient for me to get my news while I am browsing this board...Kind of like a one stop info source. But that is just my opinion. That is why I click on RR's threads. On the other hand, I avoid clicking on threads started by people who have been beat up by women...because I KNOW what I am going to get. That being said, if you live in Korea, and you have been beat up by a woman while living in Korea, I believe you have every right to post here as well. I just won't read any more of your stuff. You see...just because I don't like someone's posts doesn't mean they can't post.

RR has just as much right to post what he does as those who want to post "Korean Women Rock"-type posts...And to the best of my knowledge he has never been punched out by a woman for acting like a buffoon and then come on this board to cry about it.

Hey, I'm not a mod, but if I were to try to clean up this board and save some bandwidth, there would be quite a lot of threads ahead of this one on the chopping block.

I have never had a problem with RR's posting. One can evaluate it as he/she wishes. I think the point of the article makes clear is that we are getting paid a lot less than the average male worker in South Korea. And it is becoming a bit of a joke the low pay we get for our positions. If you think you are paid good, you need a reality check.

Really?

2.3 million won to work 12 hours a week, 5 months of vacation, & OT at 30,000 to 40,000 per hour.

compare typical businessman

9am to 7pm or later....
2-3 weeks of vacation if lucky
No OT but mandatory (voluntary WinkWink) nights out drinking
salary average is less than 3.2 per month remember 3.2 was a for a double income house.

It is relative, but a job is a job. A business man knows what his requirements are, and as an English instructure at a Korean University we know what are requirements are. Both have full time requirements. One can be a bit picky and say, hey look at the Classroom hours, but then we are not allowed to work outside the school either. I have job, a businessman has a job. I respect both jobs. The jobs aren't equal, but clock time does't always make a job full time, the positions are relative.

If you go back to the article the primary earned income was averaged at 2.67 million. Do you make 2.67 million? I do have one friend teaching English that does, but one out of many that I do know isn't great.

I know my job has great perks, ( but 5 weeks, not 5 months of vacation) and I love my job, but in the face game of Korea, we are losing face by having low saleries with the title we hold and use. There is a disconect, which if honesty was a policy in Korean organizations we would be paid better and hence little disconect.

Or triple or even higher. Most children live at home until they are married and have jobs once they hit adulthood. Or those who get married and both have jobs, then move into a house with parents who both have jobs, and live with the husband's two siblings who also have jobs.

However isn't SPAMMING against the Terms you agreed to when signing up? Seems using the SAME articles day in and out is SPAM.

I don't know about you, but it feels like all those crap SPAM emails I get.

KCK is right, RR doesnt even comment, just posts links highlighting what HE thinks is important.

Sorry this camper is tired of weeding through SPAM 24/7
