As the topic title, do any of you know somewhere it would be possible to do stand-up? I guess it isn't essential that it's in Seoul, but I'd imagine that's the only place you could possibly do it.

Even somewhere that hosts an open mic night or something similar may be what I'm looking for, but any suggestions and advice are welcome.

Thanks!

Club Psycho in Anyang has a monthly open mic night that seems to have no bar for quality, so stand-up would probably be tolerated there. You should seriously ask yourself if you're actually funny first though. I saw one Canadian guy do stand-up there who was about as funny as a bereavement, who seemed to get frustrated with the audience for not being delighted with him. It was distinctly un-charming.

If you're serious about doing stand-up comedy, go to Stand-Up Comedians Korea (also known as SUCK), whose meetup.com page is found at

http://standup.meetup.com/12

There you will find materials, meeting details, and other things helpful for becoming better at stand-up comedy.

Look in the About section of the website. There's a list of where open mics are, including directions of how to get there, times and dates the open mics begin, etc. They're not all comedy-hungry venues, to be sure, but you can get on stage and ply your craft there.

The next meeting of SUCK is June 21, this Saturday.

Thanks for the help guys. It's not actually for me, but for a friend who has actually performed stand-up comedy before in New York and New Jersey. I bet the crowds there would be tougher than anything he finds here, so I think he'll be grand.

I'll pass all of this information on to him.

Didn't some foreigners get busted a few years back for doing a gag show? Something about not having the proper permit, or not being within their visa guidelines? Confused
