seriously, were koreans all raised in barns? why can't they or do they refuse to close a door behind them? koteachers, students, human resources, everyone... one of my students said that korea isn't backwards, i made this point to him and he mummed up quickly... i could've made a billion other points though...

Actually, this is precisely what I expected. It's true, superhero, it's true.

Having said that, all of my students have never had to be told-they close the door. They don't do it with their other classes, but they do it with mine.

I guess they aren't complete savages after all.

A barn floor is covered in shit and straw.
A Korean home has a spotless, meticulously cleaned floor.
Therefore Koreans were not born in a barn.
Hospital maybe, but not barn.

This is so easy.

You have my sympathy, Captain Marlow. Half the posters will be back in about 3 weeks whining about their students turning on the air con and then opening the window and/or not closing the door.

What's the point of travelling half way around the world if you can't make a mental note of every failure of the locals and stew about it for hours before making a post whining about it here at Dave's? I mean really, what is the point?

I agree with OP. "Were you born in a barn" comes across my mind perhaps 15-20 times a day here.

But come on, give 'em a break, they literally are often a generation or less off the rice patties. There's a reason Koreans often look so uncomfortable in those cheap off the rack suits...they are.

So you are freaking out about them not closing some doors? What gives?
Why is this such a big deal that it requires its own thread?Smile LOL

I don't care about the door thing either. I tell them to close it or I close it, done.

However, the friggin' gum that the kids spit on the classroom floors and in the hallways drives my kinda nutty. Dozens of large, oddly circular, black or grey, sticky globs on the floor and some fresh ones I always end up stepping in. Jeez. 4 times in the past week. The only good thing about it, making the bad boys clean it up is my new punishment for them.
