From Reuters:
Quote:
Olympic organizers on Thursday slammed a South Korean TV station for an unauthorized broadcast of a dress rehearsal for the Games opening ceremony but the network said on Thursday it shot the footage legitimately.

The broadcast by the private SBS network has irked Chinese organizers who had, according to state media, made performers sign confidentiality agreements not to divulge details of the August 8 ceremony.

You can't really blame a journalist for shooting that kind of footage when given the chance to do so.

But other Internet users called for calm and said the TV station should not be blamed for a lapse in security that allowed them to film.

That's the thing. The fact that SBS was able to shoot the footage could reasonably be construed, in and of itself, as newsworthy. Because it speaks to the issue of how good the security is.

If we're using what's-good-for-the-goose-is-good-for-the-gander logic, then China and the IOC is perfectly within bounds to ban SBS from Olympic coverage.

Furthermore, China would be perfectly within bounds to boycott Korean goods.

Quote:
The broadcast drew swift condemnation from Chinese Internet users, some of whom called for a boycott of Korean goods.

(Though it is true that netizens don't set Chinese policy, they were able to hurt Carrefour)

I would hope any foreign media given rights to broadcast the olympics signs a confidentiality agreement that says they will not broadcast such things and if they do, they lose their broadcast rights.

It would be glorious if SBS was the rights holder and lost it for this bozo move.
