Hi,
I'm the former native speaking English teacher for Daedeok Middle School in Jukjeon, which is in Yongin city. I'm writing this so that the next teacher will find something if they do a google search on the school.
I would not recommend this school to a prospective English teacher who is looking for a cooperative work environment. The students are great and the coteachers can, at times, be well meaning. However, the school is thoroughly unprepared to deal with Westerners and were often uncooperative or even mean-spirited.
Case in point, the last two weeks of my contract I had to sort things out for moving home. Every other public school teacher I know had these two weeks to themselves as there was no teaching left to be done. It was acknowledged by my school that there was nothing left for me to do there. They refused to let me leave early without docking my pay. The Principal refused to be compassionate. When they pressed me for examples of other teachers being let go early I told them about one of my friends. My Principal then called my friend's school and I don't know what was said, but it didn't sound like an inquiry, it sounded like a heated exchange. My school then reassured me that my friend only had that day off, and would be required to come in for the next two weeks. My friend subsequently got a phone call from his school. They had given him the time off, but they then changed their minds, so they said.
I could go on, but I won't. for more information if you are a prospective teacher for this school, then please message me. As of the time I was leaving the school had not found a new teacher.
The true victim of their petty posturing are the lovely students of the school. I hope they get a nice teacher, but I'm looking out for the next teacher because, as we all know, if I don't, no one else will. |
