Has anyone had any experience of sending things back to the UK and what sort of charges are applied when they arrive? I am looking at sending back a lot.

I am not sending back merchandise or anything, just my own things (clothes, dvds, bits and pieces etc).

Any help, advice or links regarding this subject would be much appreciated.

HMRC are useless.

My laptop computer was held for over two months because the copy of the delivery note wasn't clear. I hadn't pressed hard enough on the carbon paper so they couldn't quite make out what it was...and they couldn't leave their desk to go and look at the actual parcel until I had phoned the complaints department a couple of times.

If you clearly mark it personal belongings you shouldn't have to pay charges. Just press as hard as you can on the carbon paper and write personal belongings all over the box.

Also don't let the Korean in the post office mark it as a gift on the delivery note. (I was fined 40 pounds for a box of my clothes because of this. After claiming it back I was only given 32 pounds because Parcel Force keep their charges)

As I said they are useless and in spite of your efforts they may still stop it, in some poor attempt to look busy I would imagine.

Good luck

I sent a large box containing books and a coat back to the UK last summer. It didn't cost much going by surface mail; took three months or so, but otherwise there were no problems.
