Now I want to transit Korea on my way to Hong Kong in December. Asiana has a cheap flight from JFK. I don't plan on going through immigration.

Am I going to get pulled out of Incheon's transit hall and sent back to the U.S.? Made to stand trial for ditching my worthless, thieving hagwon 3 years prior?

I know I'm probably being paranoid, but I have no idea how vindictive my Korean employer might've been when I left. Could they have flagged my name or passport number with immigration?

Please...Koreans can't keep track of something you gave them 3 minutes ago let alone 3 years ago. Enjoy passing through Korea. It is nice to have you back.

No-one gives a rat's bottom about your old runner.

If you are just "in transit" and don't clear in through customs they won't know or care that you are here. You never "enter" the country.

Have a great trip and enjoy the cheap ticket.

Thanks for the advice! I'm still trying to decide between that flight and another on JAL via Narita, but it's good to know my transit hall worries are unjustified.

Honestly, my anger at Korea/Koreans has faded entirely and I only recall the good times I had when I was in Seoul. It's funny. I kind of wish my layover at ICN would allow for a day-trip into the "old country."

I, too, did a runner from a lying hogwon owner back in 2005, and I now work here. I'm on my second year at my (great) college, in fact. Enjoy Korea. The liar provided me with a plane ticket back in the day, but I never had to pay it back. I DID have to wait on coming back until the hogwan's visa had expired, though.
