I'm running two weekly english courses for teachers at my school, and I'm in need of a recommendation for a good text book.

The level of the class is intermediate, and I'm hoping to find a book that has varied material so the lessons don't get boring or repetitive. I have looked in my local bookstore, and many of the course books teach very americanised english. Are there any textbooks out there which are a little more neutral?

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

It's not a book, but a website. It might help, I use it with my teachers sometimes.

I teach a teacher's class too. I tried many different things, but I've had the best results with the "True Stories" line of textbooks. They are a bit dated, but they have an "interesting" human interest news story on the first page, then 2 pages of activites, discussion, etc.

Make sure you get the right level. I tried Intermediate first, and they could follow it but when I tried using the Beginner's book I had a much better response. No one is there because they want to work hard/challenge themselves. They just want some easy review and look good for the principal.

You can find the books at any large bookstore, I've seen them everywhere.

I'm using English Firsthand Book 2 with my adult classes and I have to say it's the best textbook I've ever used for adults. The topics are interesting and are often the springboard to free conversation. I highly recommend this book in particular, and I'm sure the other books in the series are just as good. Also, I'd recommend making a copy of the student CD (with over 70 tracks!) for each student, and the workbook provides excellent practice for the students outside of class. You can buy it in almost any large bookstore (Books Libro, Kyobo, Bandi and Lunis).

We have the whole series, click and play. Here is an example. Get the rest at EFL classroom 2.O. Also, the books in our SHARE Resources area.

Easter -- thanks for the Firsthand recommendation, I'll check it out. Same price as Amazon. I'll add to our EFL Bookstore which I'll be advertising more in the near future. Check it out at http://eflclassroom.ning.com/wpage/books

Cheers,

breaking english is good, I use that for my english teacher class; for my high/intermediate level non-english teacher class I use let's talk 1 and 2; and for my low level non-english teacher class, I use can you believe it? and idioms for everyday use.
