"Tribal guardian admits the Amazon Indians' existence was already known, but he hoped the publicity would lift the threat of logging"
Sorry you can fool us once with the tasaday. You can't fool critical thinkers twice with this old saw.
Junior aka Julius. We called it 100% right. *struts* |

The article says their existence has been known since 1910. What was cool was that these people had not been in regular contact with the outside.

This is the right policy. |

hahahaha. U really are a tit.
And U miss the point yet again.
The tribe was known about, but uncontacted.
Do you understand? They have not had contact with the outside world. Why do you think they run for cover and aim arrows at a light aircraft? |

Stop playing semantics games, Nautilus. And speak plainly. They sold this, originally, as a discovery.

One does grow tired of people involved in knowledge and news production spinning and manipulating information on behalf of what they believe to be the greater good. This is why some of us remain suspicious re: global warming theory. And this is how Big Brother and his world will emerge, too. |

The original thread was that the tribe had been uncontacted previously and this was the case.
Idiot. |

I'm skeptical when media and politicians try to translate science for us. I'm not very skeptical, in the case of global warming or HIV causes AIDS, when I can go right to the science and the organizations themselves and read their words. |

There are quite a few scientists who aren't in agreement with the sky is falling hysterics of late. The group think is reaching a fevered crescendo. |

I agree with the first part. W. Bush's political interference in the global warming debate comes to mind as well. But I think you should reconsider what seems to be your drawing a definite line between politics and science. |

Science is conducted by independent thinkers from a wide mix of nations, cultures, funding arrangements etc. When they all roughly agree on the same thing, I'll listen. |

Please elaborate on this (without getting too verbose). Do you not believe there is a definite line? Are you referring to Copernicus and Galileo being forced to renounce their scientific findings/theories under Church pressure |

Copernicus was forced by the church to renounce something? Could you document that? |

That's not really saying anything. Are there a large number of scientists who believe the evidence points to man made global warming going around issuing sky is falling hysterics? Your loaded term rather begs a definition and citations. |

I will stay with you on this because we can understand each other. I know what you mean, and I think you know what I mean, too. I do not recognize the kind of "independence" in thought that you seem to, above. But I come at this with far more experience in the social sciences than in the hard sciences. Although I am at a major university involved in major hard science projects, with massive funding, and I know quite a few people over there. We have discussed "global warming" and "independent research" before. And more than a few confirm my and Mises's suspicions, at least that the suspicions exist within the community.
Barring any misunderstanding re: my grasp of your position that you might clarify, however, I suggest we agree to disagree and move on. |
