|
|
I gave the topic "Students' favorite teachers" to one of the reporters for my school newspaper. The student wrote a nice article and included quotes from several other students as to why they like certain teachers. However, my co-teacher believes that the teachers who are not mentioned in the article will feel hurt and will lose confidence in their teaching ability. WTH? I said that if they felt that way then they're very childish.
My co-teacher thinks it would be a good idea to leave everything anonymous, including the students' names, because they might be seen as brown nosers. Should I just can the whole story, or should I just include the teachers names? |

Can the story be amended in a more general way: Qualities of a Good Teacher? "Mi-Jin said that she likes a teacher who is..." |

In an environment where people have toes the size of Titanic, that is very good advise. |

It amazes me everyday how petty, immature, and childish certain K teachers can be. So yes, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them claim to be "hurt" by such a trivial matter. Unlike the rest of the world who would just move on & forget about it, Koreans might pout and whinnnnnee.
Rant over
I say leave the teacher's names & quotes but don't include the student's names. |

Now they know how foreign teachers feel when left out of school trips, events and the loop of information. It happens a lot in public schools. |

It is not just you and him that know it. I think pretty much every foreign teacher that has lived her for over 6 months know it. Probably most of the newbie's know it too. |

I get the impression there are serious teacher politics in the schools with promotions and special selections, etc. Your co-teacher may have a better understanding of this. It may not just be a question of teaching ego but real pay and benefits issues. |
