|
|
My E2 Visa will expire July 1st. And I'm considering getting another job and NOT returning to Canada and instead going to Japan for my new VISA.
Can I submit all my documents to immigration in June so that I have my VISA registration Number ready and waiting for me so that I could go to Japan on July 1st and have a new VISA by, say, July 3rd?
Or must one VISA expire before another application can be made. This may seem like a silly question but a hiring manager at a company made it seem like I had to apply after my VISA expired. Thus I'd be unable to work for about two works or longer. If this is the case, I might as well just go home and have a vacation.
I appreciate any help. |

Seems like your best option would be to apply at Immi for a change of employer and extension of stay rather than a new visa.
This would require a letter of release from your current employer, stating that you are released effective on the last day of your contract.
This, in conjunction with a new contract that begins immediately after your old one finishes, should allow you to change employers and extend your stay for the duration of the new contract.
The cost of a change+extension is 90,000 won (60,000 to change + 30,000 to extend)cheaper than a new visa when you factor in the cost of a visa run.

Is this a valid option when changing employers at the end of the contract? Wouldn't the visa/ARC simply expire? |

It is a valid option IF:- You line up your new job in advance;
- You get a letter of release from your current employer;
- Your period of employment is continuous (i.e., there is no gap between the ending date on your letter of release and the beginning date on your new contract.
If all these conditions are met, you can change your sponsor and extend your stay under your current status of sojourn without leaving the country.
N.B. This all has to be done prior to the expiration of your current status of stay (i.e., the date on your ARC). If your status of stay expires, it cannot be extended; you must exit the country and return on a new visa. |

Ut videam, great information.
On a related note, my current contract expires on August 24th and my new one starts on September 1st. Is there any leeway given to period of time between contracts since it's not continuous. I'm guessing the answer is "no."
Assuming it's not possible to "change employers and extend the visa," will I be able to process my visa in a manner similar to the OP's questions. Specifically, can I submit my medical check, CBC, diplomas, etc. here in Korea? If so, what will I need to do in the USA? Thanks, BB |

Yes, but with the visa run, wouldn't the school pay for it (you pay nothing). With the 90,000 cost, would the school be willing to pay for this? My instincts tell me no. |

I would like to change my employer, since my current employer is giving me a letter of release. Where can I find specific information related to what you told me? Is there a website?
Where did you find the information you cited. I plan on doing what you suggest but I want to make sure I can verify it is true with Korean immigration. Where did you learn about this? |
