So, I've had an online account set up with Nonghyup for a month or so now, but for one reason and another, I haven't quite figured out how to transfer funds to my account in the UK yet.
I actually asked to be shown how to do it last Friday, only the moron of an assistant who was supposed to be dealing with me, stopped 'assisting' me after about 2-minutes and then went off and dealt with someone else. I sat around waiting for her to return for 40-minutes, but had leave as I had to get back to school as I had a class.
Anyway, that aside, on the Overseas Remittance page there's some red text which reads: NACF Account Only
and, underneath that some text which reads:
When you want to transfer money directly from the foreign currency deposit you are keeping with us, you are required to designate another korean currency account with us where the transmitting charges can be debited from.
(Transmitting charges can only be paid with Korean currency.)
Does this mean I have to open another account or something?
Also, has anyone successfully transferred money from their Korean account to their home account whilst being outside the Country? I ask because I will be on home leave when I get my final paycheck in August and want to be able to transfer my wages to my UK account from my PC at home.
Hope that makes sense.

Nonghyup has two types of accounts.. The one you currently have is a local account.. NACF account is national account. This is a pain in the ass if you ask me but this is Korea sparkling. So yes you do need to go to a branch to open a NACF account.. If they tell you that you can do it over the phone insist tha they are fuckiing idiots and that they do it while your their.. The phone banking for english is useless they can;t do shit for you.
Also you will need to ask them to make the NACF account attached to your current internet banking otherwise you can't access your NACF account online. |

Nice one Temps.
I'm actually going back in tomorrow to try and resolve this, so I'll request a NACF account etc.
Cheers. |

Thanks. Is that per day?
I'm asking because I've saved a significant amount of money over the years and am not really clear on how to take/get that money home when I leave. |

I haven't tried it myself yet so I don't know if the limit is for a day or per transfer. Ill be heading to the bank some time this week to renew my online banking certificate so I'll ask them and let you know. |

If you transfer money, you need to pay the "transfer" charge. Itsn't free. That statement is saying you need a separate account to withdraw that transfer fee.
For instance:
You: I'd like to transfer $1000.
Teller: The charge is $20. Would you like me to take the $20 charge from the $1,000 you are transferring or would you like to pay it separately?
You: I'd like to pay for it separately. (Give them cash)
Teller: Ok, I'll transfer $1,000 to this overseas account.
Thats how it works when you do a bank transfer in person. When you do it online, they need an account to pull that $20 from. That is what they mean by separate account in your italicized quote.
So, I'm guessing you need NACF account, and then use your regualr bank account to pay for the transfer fee. |

^Cheers.
I've just got back to school having spent about 90-minutes explaining the problem. Eventually, we got there and I now have a new NACF account. I'm sure that there's a good reason for having two accounts, but it's frustrating that they couldn't/can't simply deduct the charge from my regular account.
Anyway, tis done. |

I just got back from the bank and was told that for internet bank transfers out ot the country, the limit is 10,000,000 won per year. That can be in a single transaction or spread out over the course of the year. If you want to transfer more than that, you have to do it from the bank (granted of course that you've given them the paperwork from your employer that verifies you're receiving wages from them...can't remember what the form's called). |
