I'm english, and I need a criminal records check for my visa. the agency I'm emailing say that I can just go along to the police station and get one there and then, but the website says that I need to wait 10 days for it

which is true?

I am pretty sure it is standard to wait about 2 weeks for most police checks because they are apparently quite comprehensive and must cover a lot of ground so they can't be instantaneous.

But thats just how I found it in Canada.

Just call up your local police station and ask if they can do a criminal check for you. It shouldn't (the phone call) take you that long to figure it out on your own.

UK citizens have to apply and wait up to 6 weeks. It may depend if u r doing a local force instigated 'Subject Access Check' or going through Disclosure Scotland thing (for all of UK).

I downloaded the forms and sent them with a cheque for a tenner to my local cop shop HQ. Got it back in a couple of weeks.
