|
|
Hi,
We came into Korea on Oct 31st 2007, so our visa allows us 1 year from that date. Yet we need to stay until the 5th november, as that is our pay date. Will this be a problem? How long after our visa expires do we have to leave the country?
Any help much appreciated |

it's the ARC you have to worry about.
Visa just gets u in the country then is basically useless
But other than that... I think 14 days after your contract is up... I could be wrong |

Ya, you are wrong.
You must either:
a) leave the country by the date indicated on your ARC
b) take your plane ticket, ARC and passport into immigration and get an extension (free). This can be for any time up to 30 days beyond your ARC expiry and is based on the departure date indicated on your ticket.
c) overstay your period of sojourn (stay past your ARC expiry).
If you choose this option you WILL get detained at the airport when you try to leave. Spend a while in interrogation for overstaying your visa. Get a black mark in your immigration file (that will have consequences if you ever want to return for work). Pay a fine of 100k won (each) for a short overstay of a few days.
Best choice is "B"

The ARC says 31st of October. Does that mean you have to leave exactly a year after u entered. Thats crazy, not everyone starts the day they get into the country. Surely not everyone gets detained |

Those who read Dave's should be aware of the ARC expiry date and do as suggested, get an extension (FREE if not working after the date it ends).
DO NOT believe employers who tell you you can stay 14 days after contract ends. Was just told this AGAIN in a recent job interview by a Gov. Official. (I did politely point out that I would risk a fine if I didn't leave by ARC date - which is my contratc end date - to no avail.
And YES they do detain people. Someone I know stayed on a few extra days to 'help out' her school until new teacher arrived and she very nearly missed her plane due to the questions. |
