I noticed for quite some time I can't post images nor an avatar. I just gives a cut and paste link instead of loading the picture and any avatar I try to load just says invalid URL. I noticed some people can do it, but not many others. Why?

Yeah, I'm having the same problem.
Annoying. And nobody can help me understand WHY, or how to fix it. 
I'm just irritated because I have a great avatar, but nobody can appreciate its total awesomeness.  |

| Dave's favorite cyber-terrorist spammed this site with a lot of hard-core porn photos a few weeks ago. So photos have been disabled. I guess. |

Nobody can do it. Those of us who had avatars before the great Spam-O-Pron get to keep ours, though I am not certain they can be changed or not.
Anyhow...you can still direct link to images, so no real biggie. I guess you will have to use words to convey who you are instead of some hip avatar.

| Yep, I lost my Angkor Wat avatar when I tried to change it with the actual Angkor Wat picture I'm so proud of that come from my camera. |
