Never been there. I want to hike Daecheongbong, and I was wondering if someone could tell me what bus to take from Sokcho and a little bit about the shelter. (How close to the top, cost, chance it will be full on the weekend)

Oh, and are there any other really good things to see besides daecheongbong that I could do in conjunction within two days?

from sokcho the 1-7 bus will go directly up to the base of mountain. there are some very nice hotels up at the top (kensington stars, etc.) but they are quite pricey (200,000). about 4km from the entrance there are some motels/min-bak that will cost around 50,000-80,000.

they can be quite busy though on the weekends. you can also stay down near expo park where there are nice hotels that cost less.

sorry...one more thing. yes, the shelter at the top of the mountain is usually booked well in advance. call the park's information to see if there are spots available.

Alright thanks! Any chance they'll speak English? Any chance you know where to find the number?

P.S.
I did almost the same thing in your avatar to a guy once when I was playing basketball. Not quite that hard, but left a nice mark and sat him down for a good minute. I felt so bad...

Alright, I'm sorry I lost track of the bigger thread that had this info and I'm wondering if anyone could tell me:

1. Which is the trail without a lot of stairs and about how long is it? (Your favorite up/down route would work too.)

2. What to see with a few extra hours that's easy to get to from the bus terminal or the main park entrance.

Thanks!

the mt seoraksan tourist hotel up past the kensington inside the park only runs 55,000 won for a double room off season. GREAT location. just a thought and a good value if you're splitting it with others.

The bus you want is the 7 or 7-1 heading south through downtown & past the Express Bus Terminal. Ride it to the last stop. Comes every 15 minutes or so & costs w1000.

Thanks, but I think I've got that part down now. What I'm really wondering about is these:

One thing to know is that Sokcho has two bus terminals, at some distance from each other. If you come in on an express bus, the terminal is a stone's throw from Sokcho Beach, pleasant & worth spending some time at. If you come by intercity bus (via Dong Seoul -- a cheaper, faster, & more scenic route) you end up closer to downtown, the traditional market, Yeongnang Lake, etc. A $3 taxi ride separates the two.

The motels near the beach (& in the nearby Expo Park) tend to be newer & nicer. Whichever terminal you arrive at, see if you can pick up a local tourist map suggesting local attractions. Theres plenty to see & do.

Well that doesn't answer either of my questions, but it is interesting information.

Just one thing. Dong Seoul IS the express bus terminal, so I think you might have switched something. I do know the express bus ends up near the beach.

Are you saying the NON-express bus is faster and cheaper? If so, where can I get on it?
